Aphids
COMMON INSECT PESTS
A soft-bodied insect with sucking mouthparts and pear-shaped bodies, both winged and wingless.
Symptoms: There are numerous varieties of aphids which each specialize in attacking certain types of plants and trees. Aphids can cause distorted and curled leaves and stems. Sometimes they kill leaves and tender stems. They often cause trees to ooze a sugary sap. This attracts ants, wasps, flies, and other insects. The sap may drip onto cars, garden furniture or sidewalks. Aphids are also known to spread disease from one tree or plant to another. Aphids are known for rapid reproductions cycles. If any damage is seen, immediate control is necessary to prevent the rapid spread of damage and possible secondary disease.
